Details
The Amphora vase challenges the idea of what a classic glass form should be. Sculpted at a generous scale, its silhouette is interrupted by expressive handles built from faceted, gem-like elements, functional, but deliberately exaggerated. The result is a piece that plays with balance and expectation, reflecting both Nienke Sikkema's intuitive approach to glass and a shared appetite for bold, character-led design.
More object than ornament, it invites light, touch, and curiosity in equal measure. The twisted, knotted handles catch the light differently depending on the angle, adding movement to what is already a substantial, sculptural form. Works beautifully with fresh or dried stems, or simply styled empty as a statement piece in its own right.
Designed in collaboration with glass artist Nienke Sikkema for HKLIVING, it's part of a wider collection of glass objects that feel like contemporary gemstones: heavy, luminous, and a little unruly. Hand-finished, so expect natural variation in shape and texture from piece to piece.
Styling Suggestions
- Use as a statement vase for tall, architectural stems like eucalyptus or pampas grass
- Display empty on a sideboard, shelf, or side table where the glass can catch passing light
- Group with smaller glass objects from the same collection for a layered, sculptural shelf display
- Works well against warm wood or aged concrete, where the green has room to stand out
Why We Like It
We love the contradiction at the heart of this piece, a generous, weighty silhouette balanced by handles that look almost too delicate to be real glass. It's substantial enough to anchor a room on its own, but detailed enough to reward a closer look.
