Meet Olsson & Jensen: Nordic Countryside Style for the Darker Months

Verna glass votives by Olsson & Jensen styled on a side table

If you know North Home, you'll know we love HKLIVING: bright, colourful, bold. Olsson & Jensen sits at the other end of the house. Their style is much more Nordic countryside: very textured, a little bit 60s, and full of nostalgia. Put the two side by side and you can see the range of what Scandinavian style can be, and why we like having both in the shop.

Here are the pieces I keep coming back to, and how I'd use them as the evenings draw in.

The one I'd take home: the Lolli vase in light blue

If I had to pick one piece from the range, it would be the blue vase. The Lolli handmade glass vase is a classic flared shape sitting on a contrasting coloured foot, and it comes in light blue, dusty rose and peach. The blue is my favourite. It's colourful without shouting, and it has that slightly nostalgic feel that runs through everything Olsson & Jensen make.

Candle holders: on the table, or grouped on the mantelpiece

There are two places I'd put their candle holders. The first is the middle of the table, surrounded by food. That's when candlelight is at its best: everyone sat together, plates being passed around, candles burning down between the dishes.

The second is the mantelpiece, grouped together, with some flowers nearby. Don't line them up neatly. Mix the heights and the finishes and let them sit as a cluster.

A few to look at:

The felt Christmas mice

They're so cute. They're a little bit different for the UK, but they're so classically Nordic. They take me straight back to my childhood, including my Christmas memories. There's something timeless and soft about them, and they never really go out of style.

There are three sets of two: white mice in winter knits, brown mice with a garland hoop and beige mice with a berry wreath.

Baubles: mix them all together

The Palazzo velvet bauble and the woven Bellagio bauble both work beautifully on their own, but I'd mix them with other baubles, including glass ones, and even the mice. That's what gives a tree a nice nostalgic feel. It brings back memories of those trees covered in a collection of ornaments gathered over the years, rather than one perfect matching set.

Come and see them

You can see the whole Olsson & Jensen range online, or come and see it in person at our showroom in Redbrick Mill, Batley. Textures like these are always better in real life.
